Review: 2005 Doctor who S1E1 "Rose"

Episode written by Russel T. Davis

This is a reboot of Doctor Who, it matters not what you think. Doctor who is cool again, that's all that matters.

So here is the 9th Doctor, Christoper Eccleston... Fantastic!  What does he bring to the role ? He has got the energy, that's for sure but he also brings out the emotional side of the doctor. A doctor in pain from his past and trying to correct his failures. He sort of goes around being mysterious as the Doctor does. Surprisingly, he isn't the main focus of the reboot but instead, we are put into the life of Rose, a seemingly normal girl who lives quite an average life.

You might need time to grow to like Rose or you might just like her straight away. The former was my case. The reboot of the doctor who keeps it's goofy-ness and it's high octane but it has also grown to be a show for a more mature audience than before, occasionally slipping one or two sexual innuendoes.

For the first half of episode, it might be hard to accept that this is the new doctor who, things don't pick up till later but trust me, when it picks up, the excitement skyrockets. Patience...

So now that it's established as a reboot, let's jump into what's not so unfamiliar. Classic doctor who storytelling. The ingredients are 1 sonic screwdriver , 1 TARDIS, 1 catch phrase and monsters. So we lets talk about the last part. Living plastic.
Life in plastic , It's fantastic!
Have you ever being a little scared of mannequins? I think that may be the reason so many of them don't have arms. Regardless, if you did have that nightmare, Russel.T Davis realises that nightmare as the plastic comes to life, and who has to save us ? THE DOCTOR !This episodes is quite the fun start to there series, interesting premise, interesting problem trying to bring upon end of the world, it's all quite fun which is probably the reason I watch Doctor Who.

The music is energetic but some of the filming seems low budget but the CGI is impressive. Overall, this reboot to Doctor who has everything going for it, from nostalgia at ever corner especially in the first scene they enter the TARDIS or the Doctor solves all problems with his sonic screwdriver. This episode is a sign that more fun is to come and I give this episode an overall 4/5. Doctor who is cool again.
